The Proposal

I am now almost 2 weeks into being a fiancee. i said i would update this and give everyone the story earlier sooo here it is: Jonathan's Proposal

Hangin' Out:
The day started out pretty normal. Our 1 year anniversay was on Thursday, Jonathan drove to texas on friday, and saturday was our celebration day. We woke up early saturday morning so that we could go to a seminar at The Village (my church in Denton). So we go to the seminar, it was discussing the "emergent" church and it was pretty cool. Our next stop was Six Flags...but we had to get lost a few times. Actually we got lost 3 or 4 times, but i like having jonathan in the car with me and other than that the occassional "what exit? from him and the "ugh, we just passed it" from me wasn't too bad. Six Flags was interesting because we got season passes fro the same price as general admission but ended up only riding 2 rides. oh well, i guess we'll just have to go back there all throughout the year.

Goin' Out:
After six flags we started driving back to mckinney so that we could get ready to go out to dinner. Jonathan made it clear that he needed to take a shower first and that he would have to leave while i was getting ready so that he could get dessert, which was to be a surprise. He gets back and picks me up and we go to Shogun. This restaurant was amazing! Its one of those where they cook the food in front of you. So we left Shogun with our bellies really really full. We get in the car and Jonathan says "you ready for dessert"? I said "sure". We start driving and end up on valley creek tr and i realize that were gonna take a walk on our favorite path in mckinney. This nature trail is special because its one of the first places we went the first time he came to texas and since then we like to take walks there and have had good conversations. I get out of the car, jonathans tells me that i will not be needing shoes. so i remove the shoes and am handed a bag...my "survival kit" but i can't look in it yet.

we start walking, barefoot, and get pretty far along the trail (its dark outside by the way other than the occassional lightning bug that lights the way) and then jonathan has me stop. "look in your bag and find the flashlight" i find it. "ok look for something around this area" i finally find what "it". its a picture frame. the front is a picture of us(being the whole peru team including jonathan and i) in peru with "the beginning" on it. i turn it around and jonathan had written me a sweet note basically talking about when we had met.

At this point my thought is "oh my goodness! is he gonna propose? that would be pretty perfect"

We keep on walking and along the way stop occassionally in order for me to search for pictures. the next ones were 'fun times, little moments, and now' each picture has a sweet note on the back. we get past the 'now' picture and walk down to the green (the nature trail is next to a golf course). jonathan tells me that the last picture is up there (he points to the top of the hill, that i need to go get it and that he is going to set up down here. so i go off searching for this last picture while hes setting up...i can't find it, so he comes up and helps me. i finally find it and it says "future". i read it and there is no "will you marry me" buut instead jonathan wrote about how this year of our relationship had been great and how he can't wait to see what continues in our relationship. we turn around and start walking back to the green.

my thought at this point is "ehh maybe not a proposal. were just celebrating our anniversay. but its still a good night"

we get to the green. get some chocolates (from inside the "survival kit") jonathan has me sit down on a chair. and im thinking "is he gonna sing me a song?" because he had brought his guitar. this is not what happens next. he reaches in his backpack and pulls out a GINORMOUS bowl. i start crying because i know what he is about to do. he takes the bowl and starts pouring water into it and then gently takes my feet and starts washing them. "sarah i love you and i want you to know that i promise to never leave you. i promise to always serve you and i want you to be the woman that i serve God with. i don't ever want to be away from you. i dont' want to tease you anymore...sarah mckenzie mathews...will you marry me?" i shout/shriek "YES" and practically tackle him as i give him a hug proceeded by a kiss. he then requests that i sit back down as he pulls out his guitar...and then serenades me with "i wanna grow old with you" from the wedding singer. We take some time to pray together and then walk back to the car. its been pretty good ever since...my "happily ever after" (yeah korny) is still more than anything i could have ever hoped or prayed for. Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Jonathan is by far one of the best blessings i have ever had in my life and were going to be together for forever...well until death do us part.
